Changes to our Appointment System

Across the country General Practice is seeing an unprecedented demand for appointments which is now well in excess of pre-Covid times.

In March of this year GP practices across the country saw more patients than in any other month since records began.

Sixways Clinic is no different to other practices in this respect. The level of demand is putting extreme pressure on the surgery at a time when we are still supporting the Covid vaccine programme and whilst we are still limited by restrictions due to requirements for PPE and enhanced cleaning.

We continue to review feedback from you, our patients, to see how we can adapt to try to maintain the level of accessibility we usually aim to provide.

There is still a requirement that we consult initially with patients over the phone, inviting them to the surgery for a face to face appointment only when this is felt to be clinically necessary for their assessment and care. Over the coming weeks we will be starting to introduce a new way of managing appointments for conditions that do not require an ‘on the day’ appointment and for follow up of existing conditions. We are making small changes, one step at a time, to check that our new systems are safe and effective. We hope our new systems will work well for our patients whilst protecting the wellbeing of our staff.
