When We Are Closed
On weekdays between 6.30pm and 8.00am the following morning and throughout weekends and Bank Holidays, you should call 111 and you will be transferred to the out-of-hours service. Contacting this number will put you through to specially trained NHS staff who will make sure that you receive the appropriate advice and help quickly.
At other times when the surgery is closed, for example during staff training sessions, you can contact the duty doctor by calling 01242 223810 (option 1).
This service is intended for SERIOUS OR URGENT cases only. You will either get the doctor direct, or a message will give you a number to ring. Do NOT try ringing other numbers first. If there is no response after 20 minutes please telephone the above number again to check that your first call was registered.
The Gloucester Health Access Centre in Eastgate Street (GL1 1PX) is open 8am to 8pm, 7 days a week and the GPs there provide a wide range of care for things like:
- Stomach upsets
- Coughs (lasting more than 3 weeks)
- Minor Injuries.
They also offer:
- Care for patients with long term conditions e.g. asthma, diabetes
- Wound care and dressings
- Contraception and sexual health advice
- Blood pressure and weight checks.
The Centre provides a ‘walk in’ facility, but patients are seen on an appointment basis, so it’s best to ring in advance on 01452 336290 to get a time that is convenient for you.
For more information about the services available and the conditions that can be treated at the centre, visit www.asapglos.nhs.uk or download the ASAP Glos NHS mobile app from the app store.
There is also the Urgent Care Centre within the South Bristol NHS Community Hospital at Hengrove Park in Whitchurch (BS14 0DE). Tel: 0117 342 9692.
Out-of-hours services are generally busy so please think carefully before asking to see a doctor and only do so if you genuinely cannot wait until the surgery re-opens.
In a genuine emergency you should call 999. Chest pains and / or shortness of breath constitute an emergency.
